چکیده

Among head and neck Squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCCs), the larynx is one of the sites most involved, being traditionally associated with tobacco and alcohol use, especially when in combination [1]. As squamous carcinoma develops throughout a step progression in various stages of dysplasia, many molecular changes have been described [2]. The implication of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) in HNSCC development [3,4], particularly, the infection with high-risk HPV types (HR-HPV) has also been etiologically linked with a subset of laryngeal carcinoma [5] thus suggesting a different carcinogenetic pathway. Studies regarding HPV induced laryngeal cancers indicate that they are associated with improved outcomes [6], moreover they have more favorable prognosis when treated with surgery alone [7]. At present, the causal role of HR-HPV in laryngeal carcinogenesis is controversial, mainly because no unanimously accepted detection method exists. Commonly used HPV detection methods for formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue include: HPV consensus PCR method, type specific HPV detection by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and real-time PCR assays. Alternatively, the role of p16INK4a protein has been reported to identify HPVrelated laryngeal cancers [8]: hypermethylation and underp16INK4/Ki-67 Dual-Staining Expression as a Prognostic Indicator in Laryngeal Cancer

Immunohistochemical staining of Ki-67 using the monoclonal antibody Ki-s11 is a prognostic indicator for laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma.

BACKGROUND Proliferative activity has been shown to be of prognostic significance for several malignancies. Ki-67, a cell cycle associated antigen, is regarded as a promising proliferation marker. Very few results on the proliferative activity of head and neck cancer and their potential prognostic value are available. MATERIALS AND METHODS The proliferative activity of 104 squamous cell carci...

Prognostic significance of metallothionein, p53 protein and Ki-67 antigen expression in laryngeal cancer.

BACKGROUND This study aimed at the evaluation of the expression of metallothionein (MT) in laryngeal carcinoma and its correlation with the expression of Ki-67 antigen and p53 protein and selected clinical and pathological variables in view of their potential prognostic significance. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty-five laryngeal cancer patients were retrospectively analysed. Expression of MT, Ki...

G1/S-specific cyclin-D1 might be a prognostic biomarker for patients with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the prognostic role of antigen KI-67 (Ki-67) and G1/S-specific cyclin-D1 (cyclin-D1) in patients with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC). METHODS Immunohistochemical staining (IHS) was used to determine the protein expression of Ki-67 and cyclin-D1 in LSCC tissues. Kaplan-Meier survival curves was calculated with reference to Ki-67 and cyclin-D1 levels. RESULT...

Steroid hormone receptors, MIB-1, p53, and c-erb-B2 expression on breast cancer: Comparison of immunohistochemistry on cell block and fine needle aspiration and tissue sample, in northwest Iran

Background: Fine-needle aspiration of breast cancer often provides moderate cellular material that is representative of the tumors. These samples can be used not only for cytological diagnosis but also to obtain information on the prognosis and likely response to therapy by using immunohistochemical staining studies. Methods: We assessed the degree of correlation between prognostic biologic ma...

CKAP2 (cytoskeleton-associated protein2) is a new prognostic marker in HER2-negative luminal type breast cancer

BACKGROUND Recently, we reported cytoskeleton-associated protein2 (CKAP2) as a possible new prognostic breast cancer marker. However, it has not yet been applied in clinic. Therefore, clinical significance of CKAP2 was evaluated in comparison with that of Ki-67 in a cohort of breast cancer patients, and the expression difference was analyzed in cell cycle-arrested cancer and fibroblast cells. ...
